Brandi Bakewell is a leader in education, mental health, and media advocacy.

As Executive Vice President of the Los Angeles Sentinel and The Bakewell Company, she plays a pivotal role in amplifying voices within the Black community and championing stories of resilience, justice, and empowerment.

With over two decades of experience, Brandi’s career is rooted in a passion for fostering growth and well-being. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College, she deepened her expertise with a Double Master’s degree from the University of Southern California, specializing in education, marriage and family therapy, and school counseling.

Her professional journey has seamlessly bridged the worlds of education, mental health, and media, reflecting her commitment to holistic community impact.

Brandi’s work extends beyond the newsroom. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she has guided students and young people through critical life challenges, serving as both a school counselor for Los Angeles Unified School District and a clinical supervisor overseeing mental health services within K-12 schools.

A dedicated advocate for wellness in all forms, Brandi’s expertise is complemented by her engagement in therapeutic modalities, professional organizations, and her personal commitment to mindfulness through yoga and meditation.

In her role at the Los Angeles Sentinel, Brandi continues her family’s legacy of journalistic excellence, leveraging media as a platform for change. Her work sits at the intersection of storytelling, advocacy, and mental health, creating pathways for dialogue, healing, and progress.
